Today, the algorithms using band 11 of MERIS are working with the individual wavelength per pixel. A file is available on ESA Website that provides a lookup table detector-index versus wavelength and also solar irradaince. The detector index is included in each MERIS L1 product. As example, the cloud top pressure retrieval of the L2 processing works with a neural network. Input to this neural network for a given pixel is the measurement in band 11 and the precise wavelength of that pixel.
Recently, as part of the Case2Regional project, Dr. Schiller (formely GKSS research centre, now with Brockmann Consult) has developed a simple smile correction method for band 11. He reported this during the last MERIS-AATSR workshop (
